Breeder receives suspended jail term for cropping pups’ ears

Seyed Alavizadeh, a dog breeder operating under the name ‘Defined Bullz,’ has been handed a 16-week suspended jail sentence for causing the illegal cropping of dogs’ ears, which he showcased on his Instagram account.

Alavizadeh, of Laburnum Road, Southampton, Hampshire, appeared at Southampton Crown Court on Thursday, May 16. He had previously pleaded guilty in March to seven counts of causing dogs’ ears to be cropped, in violation of the Animal Welfare Act 2006.

The RSPCA became aware of Alavizadeh’s activities through their Special Operations Unit research and intelligence team, which discovered that Defined Bullz was arranging for puppies’ ears to be cropped.

RSPCA Inspector Caroline Richardson commented, “Ear cropping is a painful and illegal procedure that carries no benefits at all to the dogs, making this a particularly concerning case.”

Following this information, police obtained a warrant and executed it on May 18, 2023. During the raid, officers found several adult dogs with cropped ears and a litter of puppies being kept in the house and an outbuilding marked ‘Defined Bullz Kennels – Trust the blood.’

A total of 17 dogs were seized from the property, including Ziba, a cropped female pocket bully type, her 10 young puppies, and five older pups.

The dogs were taken into RSPCA care, and the puppies were placed in foster homes once they were old enough. All dogs involved in the case have since been successfully rehomed.

Inspector Richardson added, “We hope this case sends a strong message to anyone involved with ear cropping that this will not be tolerated.”

In addition to the suspended sentence, Alavizadeh received a five-year ban on owning, keeping, and participating in the keeping of dogs. He was also ordered to complete 100 hours of unpaid work and prohibited from dealing in or transporting animals.
